I recently attended the second annual International Symposium of Aviation Photographers. It was hosted by Boeing Helicopter of Mesa, Arizona. The attending photographers were taken to a remote location in the foothills of the Mazatzal Mountains where an AH-64D Longbow Apache pilot was being checked out in the type.
Part of his check ride was performed in front of the assembled photographers. It was later estimated that we shot about 7,000 frames during the demonstration.
This AH-64D Longbow Apache currently carries serial 00-5231. It is a remanufactured AH-64A.
I grew up in Phoenix, so I have traveled extensively in the area. I drove up the dirt road that you can see behind the Apache over the Four Peaks Range last November.
This shot was taken through a shorter telephoto with a polarier.
